RCHS Railyn Combs

Rushville’s Railyn Combs gets set in the starting blocks during action in the indoor meet at Ball State University.

MUNCIE – The RCHS track and field teams started the 2024 season with an indoor meet at Ball State University, hosted by Muncie Burris.

The Lady Lions were led by junior Leonie Boyer in the field events with a first place in the high jump at 4-10 and Charlotte Caviness with a third place at 4-8. Boyer’s leap of 4’10’ currently ranks her 15th in the state of Indiana.

Both Boyer and Caviness joined Carly Senor and Railyn Combs in the 4x200 relay to take second place that ranks them 19th in the state this week. Other top individual finishers for the Lady Lions were Katie Ripberger fifth in the 60 hurdles, McKenna Norris fourth in the long jump and Combs 14th in the 60.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Maddy Hankins, Jorja Ellis, Melaney Mahan and Josie Corn placed fourth. The 4x400 team of Senour, Caviness, Kendra Jacobs and Ripberger crossed the line fourth. The 4x800 team of Mahan, Corn, Ellis and Josie Newhouse placed fifth.

On the boys side, the Lions were led in the field by Liam Gurley with a third place throw in the 30-athlete shot put competition.

Other individual finishers for the Lions were Griffin Norris and Tom Harwot in the long jump with a 12th and 13th placing and Quinn Barada was ninth in the 60. The 4x200 relay team of JJ Lilly, Barada, Harwot and Griffin placed eighth. The DMR team of Colton England, Elijah Biggs, Logan Jacobs, and Isacc Schelle finished eighth, and the 4x400 team of Biggs, England, Ethan Knecht and Harwot crossed the line fifth.

Both teams will travel to the University of Indianapolis two Wednesdays in a row.
