GREENSBURG – Junior Chase Tekulve won the Greensburg Optimist Club’s Oratorical Contest last week.
The theme of the 4 to 5 minute speech was “How to Change the World with Optimism.” Opened to all youth, this year’s event had five contestants including 2nd place finisher Chloe Dick and 3rd place finisher Grace Schutte.
Tekulve will be awarded $200 for the honor. In addition, both the first and second place finishers will be sent to the district level where they will compete against winners from other Optimist Clubs in the area and have a chance to win a scholarship, and then possibly on to the Optimist International World Championship for a chance to win an additional $5,000 or up to another $15,000 scholarship.
The district competition is this coming Sunday, March 10, in Plainfield, Indiana.
“We are very impressed with what the youth of our community shared tonight. The members of our Optimist Club and community should be proud of our youth for stepping up to the plate to deliver such great speeches on changing the world,” Optimist and chair of the event, Sonja Kolmkeier, said.
The Optimist Club of Greensburg has been participating in the Optimist Oratorical Contest for many years and plays an active role with youth in our community.
Congratulations on a job well done to all the participants including: Kutisha Bowman, Azucena Cruz Del Valle, Chloe Dick, Grace Schutte and Chase Tekulve.
Kolkmeier also thanked Mike Novak for being the evening’s emcee, Greensburg Mayor Joshua Marsh, Nicole Luman and Collin Rigney for being the three judges. Additionally, she thanked Dustin Smith for running the lights and sound and the Greensburg Community High School’s Junior Optimist Club for their behind the scenes assistance.
