GREENSBURG – Operation Christmas Child activities are starting back up. March 8 will be sewing day for boys’ shorts at the Extension Office, 9 to 4 p.m. Come any or all of the day. Bring sewing machine/serger if you have one. There are all kinds of things you can do even if you do not sew. Materials are furnished.

Monday, March 11, craft days will begin at the First Baptist Church meeting every Monday from 1 until 4 p.m. All kinds of crafts are made during these days. Come see what you can do to help fill the Christmas boxes and enjoy the fellowship of working with other crafters.

They request donations of cotton fabric suitable for shorts, buttons, yarn, wash cloths, children’s underwear, beach balls, combs, brushes, 6-inch rulers, children scissors, coloring books, greeting cards, #7 plastic canvas, 1/8 inch ribbon, lace trims, and used T shirts. These can be dropped off at First Baptist Church or the Extension Office.

Here are some recipes you can try. They have all been tried and enjoyed.

HAMBURGER NOODLE BAKE

2 lb. ground beef

1 ½ c. chopped onion

8 oz. medium size noodles (cook & drain)

8 oz. package shredded cheddar cheese

2 – 10 ¾ oz. cans tomato soup

1 c. water

1/3 c. chopped green pepper

¼ c. chili sauce

¾ t. salt

1 ½ c. soft bread crumbs

3 T. butter

In skillet, cook beef and onion until meat is lightly browned and onion is tender. Drain off fat. Combine meat, onion, noodles, cheese, soup, water, green pepper, chili sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Turn into 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. Combine bread crumbs and butter and sprinkle on top. Bake in 350 degree oven for 40 to 45 minutes or until hot through. Serves 12.

BUTTERSCOTCH BROWNIE SQUARES

Melt until absorbed. Cool:

1 c. butter

1 lb. brown sugar

Add:

2 eggs

½ t. salt

2 c. flour

1 t. baking powder

½ c. nuts (optional)

Spread on ungreased cookie sheet and bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Cut into squares. You can spread chocolate frosting after they cool if desired.

TOMATO DUMPLINGS

1 c. flour

3 t. baking powder

1 t. salt

1 c. tomato juice

Sift all dry ingredients together. Add tomato juice and stir until smooth. Drop by spoonsful on top of boiling stews. Return stew to boiling, cover tightly and do not even peek for at least 12 minutes. Cook at moderate setting.

CAULIFLOWER/BROCCOLI/CORN BAKE

Cook and drain:

1 – 10 oz. package frozen cauliflower

1 – 10 oz. package frozen broccoli

1 – 10 oz. package frozen corn

Add:

1 can cream of celery soup

2 beaten eggs

1 t. minced onions

¾ c. crushed saltines

2 T. melted butter

1 t. salt

Mix and sprinkle on top:

½ c. cracker crumbs

2 t. melted butter

Bake uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes in 350 degree oven.
