INDIANAPOLIS – Rushville’s track teams competed at the University of Indianapolis Wednesday. This is another chance for the Lions and Lady Lions to improve their state ranking in hopes of qualifying for the indoor state meet.

The indoor state meet will be held at the newly built Track and Field Facility at the Indiana State Fairgrounds March 23. To qualify, times and distances must be one of the top 24 in the state by the March 16 deadline.

The Lady Lions turned in a big night on the track with the 4x400 relay team of Charlotte Caviness, Trisha Morgan, Kelsey Morgan and Mia Norvell moving to 16 in the state rankings.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Mady Hankins, Melaney Mahan, Josie Corn and Morgan earned a 22nd ranking in the state.

The 4x200 relay of Leonie Boyer, Raelyn Combs, Carly Senour and Caviness grabbed the 23rd ranking position.

According to Coach Tush, other top finishers for the Lady Lions included Alyna Miller in the 60, Morgan in the 60 hurdles, Joselyn Cain in the shot put, McKenna Norris in the long jump, and Boyer in the high jump.

“I am pleased with the hard work these girls have put in already to the preseason. I expect some school records to fall this season,” Coach Tush said.

The Lions earned some state rankings in the relays as well. The 4x400 team of Elijah Biggs, Tom Harwot, Ethan Knecht and Chase Woolf ranked 34th.

The 4x200 team of Quinn Barada, JJ Lilly, Woolf, and Harwot ranked 48th. Both teams are expected to climb in the HSR rankings this next week according to Head Coach Holly Grizzell.

Other top finishers were Harwot in the long jump and Woolf in the 60.
