DAR

The Daughters of American Revolution swore in five new members, all from one family. It had always been a wish of Doris Kathleen Boone, now 97 years young, to join the DAR organization. She knew she had a Patriot in her lineage but never got around to pursuing the requirements needed to join.

Doris “Kathleen” married, became a nurse, raised her children, and watched her family grow with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all along wondering if she could investigate her lineage and join this nationwide worthy organization.

Her daughter, Nancy Schutte, granddaughter Rebecca Kennelly and great-granddaughters Caroline and Aubrey Kennelly wanted to give their favorite mother and grandmother one of her greatest wishes. They got the idea one day not too long ago to fulfill one of Kathleen’s bucket list items. At the same time, they themselves would join DAR along with Kathleen.

They contacted our local Chapter, Lone Tree, and the DAR members responded right away to their request. They asked the National DAR for fast approval and within a month it became a reality that Kathleen would become a DAR member, then the rest of the family followed. Just days ago, we met at Morning Breeze and all of them took the oath of membership.

So, it goes to show you are never too old to join the Daughters of American Revolution! If you are interested or have questions, give our Chapter a call at 812-614-1821 or email darlonetreechapter@gmail.com.
